Japan reports first case of the omicron xe mutant

The Japanese Ministry of Health announced the registration of the first case of the "xe" mutant of the Omicron strain, in a woman who arrived at Narita Airport near Tokyo.

The Japan Today newspaper quoted the ministry as saying that the woman is in her thirties, and she was in the United States, and she did not show symptoms, and she arrived at the airport on March 26.

The XE strain was discovered by genetic sequencing of samples from the woman at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.

It is noteworthy that this strain is a mixture between the "PA.1" and "PA.2" mutated strains from Omicron.
