Astronomers have discovered what may be the oldest and most distant galaxy ever observed.

This galaxy formed shortly after the Big Bang event that marked the origin of the universe, or was formed from the first generation of novae.

The galaxy, dubbed HD1, dates back to just over 300 million years after the Big Bang, 13.8 billion years ago, researchers said on April 7, 2022.
