Israeli security forces on Sunday (April 10th) killed a Palestinian woman who stabbed a policeman in the center of Hebron, a large city in the southern occupied West Bank, a police spokesman said.

A Palestinian woman "came to a border police checkpoint to stab an officer", who was "slightly injured", the police unit said in a brief message to the press.

Questioned by AFP, a spokesman for the border police, Tamir Pero, said that the assailant had been shot.

The incident occurred near the Cave of the Patriarchs, also known as the Ibrahimi Mosque, a holy place for both Judaism and Islam.

The city of Hebron is a powder keg where nearly 1,000 Jewish settlers live under heavy military protection among 200,000 Palestinians.

Palestinian woman dies of injuries near Bethlehem

Earlier on Sunday, a Palestinian woman "suspiciously" heading towards Israeli soldiers near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank was shot at by the soldiers and died of her injuries.

It is Ghada Sabatine, a forty-year-old widow and mother of six children, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

The Israeli army confirmed opening fire on the woman's "lower body", saying she was "suspiciously" heading towards soldiers despite "warning shots" to dissuade her.

She received first aid on the spot from the soldiers before being taken care of by the Palestinian Red Crescent, said the Israeli army, which announced that it had launched an investigation into this case.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, the woman was seriously injured when she arrived at Beit Jala hospital, near Bethlehem, where she died after losing "a lot of blood".

The incidents come as Israeli forces conduct an operation in the occupied northern West Bank following an attack that killed three people in Tel Aviv on Thursday night by a Palestinian from the Jenin refugee camp.
