Dubai Culture concludes SIKKA 2022 with successes that exceeded expectations

Amid a remarkable turnout by visitors, the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) concluded the 10th edition of the Sikka Art and Design Festival, which was held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), a member Dubai Majlis, in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, from 15 to 24 March under the umbrella of the Dubai Art Season 2022, and is part of the “Dubai Destinations - Arts Season” campaign that was launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Media Council .

This year's edition of the festival achieved successes that exceeded expectations, most notably the record attendance of more than 80,000 visitors over 10 days;

To bring together art lovers from different cultures and nationalities under the slogan “We celebrate art, we celebrate prosperity” in celebration of the successes achieved over the nine successive editions of the festival.

The next edition of the festival will be from February 24 to March 5, 2023.

Speaking about the festival’s busy journey, the Executive Director of the Arts and Literature Sector at the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, said: “We are very proud of this year’s edition of the Sikka Art and Design Festival, in which we continued to achieve our mission to provide platforms for local talents. To help it thrive and grow, to strengthen the cultural industries in the emirate and to consolidate its position as the global capital of the creative economy, in line with the objectives of the Dubai Creative Economy Strategy.

We lived 10 days of exceptional creative experiences and arts celebrations that unleashed our imaginations, and enjoyed the creativity of the wonderful artists we had the honor to welcome to our festival this year.”

“We are grateful to all those who participated in this success, which would not have been possible without their support, especially the festival’s partner, du, as well as the educational and cultural institutions in the UAE, which made the festival wonderful participation,” said Nour Khalfan Al Roumi, Project Director of Sikka Art and Design Festival 2022.

Sikka Art and Design Festival 2022 hosted 1,269 artworks, with the participation of more than 250 artists, in attendance and virtual, in addition to 57 workshops and 70 performances.

The festival also witnessed a remarkable turnout, with 734 people registered in the various sessions and workshops.

The festival was distinguished in this year's session with the participation of 79 Emirati artists in attendance, who made up 50% of the total number of participants, in addition to 34 Arab artists residing in the UAE and the Arabian Gulf, and 45 foreign artists residing in the UAE and the Arab Gulf states.
