A presentation ceremony was held for the Maejima Hisoka Award, which is given to people who have made outstanding achievements in fields such as communications and broadcasting, and 31 people and two organizations received the award.

This award is given annually to those who have made outstanding achievements in the fields of telecommunications, broadcasting, and postal services, in honor of Maejima Hisoka's achievements, which laid the foundation for the postal services during the Meiji era.



At the presentation ceremony held in Tokyo on the 7th, awards were given to 31 people and 2 groups in total for joint research with individuals.

Of these, groups such as KDDI R & D Laboratories have succeeded for the first time in the world in experiments to increase the transmission capacity of optical communication systems to more than 100 times the conventional capacity in preparation for high-speed, large-capacity communication standards, 5G and later. ..



It was evaluated as having contributed to the construction of the infrastructure of the information and communication society, as it is expected to be put to practical use in the optical submarine cable network in the future.



In addition, former NHK announcer Tamio Miyake, who was active in a wide range of fields from news and information programs to entertainment, and NHK Science & Technical Research Laboratories, which developed a system for translating Japanese news manuscripts into English, were also awarded.
