From the age of 16, I started working as a decoration worker with my cousin. I have been a painter for more than 40 years. Pan Jianhua, a villager in Jin'e Village, Deqing County, Huzhou, never imagined that now his hair is gray, and he still has the opportunity to go to the China Academy of Art to learn from the teacher. draw.

The 58-year-old Lao Pan can afford a paintbrush and a brush in his hand, and he also has the opportunity to take his disciples to learn Chinese painting.

was a famous painter

Very good at painting "rubber paintings" on wooden furniture

When I first saw Pan Jianhua, who was thin and thin, I felt that he didn't look like a decorator at all, but rather like a quiet scholar.

He said that he had never read any books. 42 years ago, when he was 16 years old, he started a small decoration job with his cousin and apprenticed to a master painter. Workers come to paint, and painters who pay attention to it also need to paint.”

He remembered the most popular wooden bed combining Chinese and Western styles. There were nine boards on the bed fence for painting. Most of the paintings were flowers and birds such as plums, orchids, bamboo and chrysanthemums. Pan Jianhua said that this kind of painting is called "rubber painting" locally.

"Rubber painting is quite troublesome. The wood is painted white, gray or creamy yellow first. After the paint is dry, it is sanded with sand skin over and over again. Then, the wood is coated with specially treated pigment powder, and finally rubber or tire skin is used. Wipe off the areas where you don't need the color, and the rest of the color can be turned into a pattern."

"I got started very quickly, and I was able to paint rubber paintings by myself in half a year. I remember building a large wardrobe at that time, and the price of contracting labor and materials was 30 yuan. After I left the apprenticeship, the salary of a painter was 2.7 yuan a day, and the income was OK. Yes, and my craftsmanship is good. Not long after I started my apprenticeship, I started to take apprentices. At most, I had four apprentices." He admitted with a smile that his craftsmanship has always been well-known locally, "Raising a family, raising a wife, When raising children, when I made money, I wanted to build a house so my family could live more spaciously.”

Who would have thought that an old one could put down the paintbrush and pick up the paintbrush.

Admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts Training Course

I dare not tell my wife how much the tuition is

"It turns out that there is no endowment insurance in rural areas, and all the money I make must be saved. Our village is not bad, and I can make money, but I didn't dare to spend so much money on painting before." Pan Jianhua said that painting is an art It's a very extravagant thing. Now rural people can get a "retirement salary" when they reach the age. Pan Jianhua's family has been demolished again, and finally he doesn't need to make money for a "big house".

At this time, an opportunity came to him.

In 2016, Pan Jianhua met Huang Jianshi who was teaching at Deqing County Senior Citizen University at the wedding banquet.

Lao Pan still remembers Huang Jianshi's encouragement and help: "Mr. Huang said that I am very talented and asked me to go to the University for the elderly to study, even as a hobby." After that, Pan Jianhua came to the Chinese painting class of Deqing University for the elderly to learn flower and bird painting, more than 50 years At the age of 20, he started the enlightenment of traditional Chinese painting, and slowly entered the door.

  Lao Pan is really talented.

In the summer of 2019, he saw the relevant admissions brochure of the China Academy of Art in the circle of friends. He drew four paintings and sent them to the designated mailbox to pursue further studies. He did not expect to receive an advanced training class in the copying and creation of flower and bird painting variants of the China Academy of Art. Admission notice.

"This is still quite a sensation in our village. Many people come to ask me, is it really the China Academy of Art? It's not a liar who cheats money."

"The tuition fee is not cheap. It cost 25,000 yuan to finish the course. I didn't dare to tell the truth to my wife at that time. I said that as long as it was 10,000 yuan, my wife would have no objection." He said that his wife still wanted him to be a painter. Making money, painting is money.

"I used to study painting at the University for the Elderly. She lost her temper and tore up a lot of my paintings. Now it can be considered support."

In the village and town, people came to him to learn painting

Hotel murals will also be handed over to him

Today, Lao Pan still arranges a small studio for himself in the house he rents.

The conditions are not good, the old writing desk is used as a drawing table, the old brown bed is full of paintings up and down, and the walls are also full of his works.

"Sometimes I don't have the confidence, so I use a little bit of paper to draw first. After a few times, I feel that I have a little bit of paper, and then I use a better paper. If I'm satisfied with the painting, I put it away. The best thing is to mount it. Get up, compete or exhibit."

During one and a half years of study, he learned more skills at the China Academy of Art and made many friends, some of whom came from various painting and calligraphy associations and had a strong foundation in painting and calligraphy. It's all burnt, I can't see it, I have to draw a better picture."

His paintings have also been recognized by more people around him. "In the village and in the town, some people have come to me to learn painting. I don't charge much and teach very seriously."

What makes Lao Pan most happy is that the hotel asked him to paint murals at the same time. "It took eight days to paint seven paintings." Lao Pan said that this is not only because the paint craftsmanship that has been polished over the years has been recognized. , Even the painting skills were recognized, "I also have a little confidence, maybe it is feasible to make a living by painting skills."

But Lao Pan said that he still had some ideas, "When I went to the Academy of Fine Arts, I couldn't do work one day a week, and many people who were in a hurry didn't ask me to do the work. After the class, painting was a manual job, and it took one day to work. After returning home, I don’t have the strength to practice drawing with a paintbrush anymore. If there is a way to make my economy more relaxed, I can practice drawing with peace of mind before retirement, that would be even better.”
