China News Agency, Hong Kong, April 6 (Reporter Zhang Xiaoxi) The Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Li Jiachao, announced on the 6th that he has submitted a letter of resignation to the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, to resign as Chief Secretary for Administration. With the approval of the government, he intends to run for the next HKSAR chief executive election.

  Li Jiachao attended a press conference held at the SAR Government Headquarters on the same day to announce the above decision.

Before the press conference, the Information Office of the SAR Government announced that Carrie Lam received Li Jiachao's resignation on the 6th and submitted it to the Central People's Government in accordance with Article 48, paragraph 5, of the Hong Kong Basic Law.

Li Jiachao immediately started vacation.

  The election for the sixth term chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will be held on May 8, and the nomination period will start on April 3 and end on April 16.

  Li Jiachao, 64, will be the Chief Secretary for Administration from June 2021.
