Make good use of the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine to help Hong Kong fight the new crown epidemic

——Interview with Tong Xiaolin, head of the Central China Aid Hong Kong Anti-epidemic TCM Expert Team

Tong Xiaolin, the leader of the Central China Aid Hong Kong Anti-epidemic TCM Expert Team, said in an interview with reporters recently that the advantages of TCM will be highlighted, with "easy to understand, easy to implement, and easy to obtain" as the foothold to help Hong Kong fight the new crown epidemic, and hope to build a long-term future in the future. Effective mechanism to enable Chinese medicine to continue to benefit the people of Hong Kong.

This time, there are 7 members of the Chinese Medicine Expert Group of Central China's Aid to Hong Kong Anti-epidemic, led by Tong Xiaolin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

At the invitation of the Hong Kong SAR government, they arrived in Hong Kong for inspection on the morning of March 29.

After arriving in Hong Kong, the team of experts communicated with the Department of Health of the Hong Kong SAR Government, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Management Committee and other parties, and went to the Intensive Care Department of Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Center, Asia International Check out the COVID-19 Treatment Center in the Expo Center and other places to learn about the treatment situation.

Tong Xiaolin said that after in-depth communication with the relevant departments of the SAR government, the Chinese medicine industry and Western medicine counterparts, and at the same time conducting a relatively comprehensive investigation, they reached a consensus in many aspects: First, they will continue to reduce the "three reductions" and "three important". "One priority" (reducing deaths, reducing severe illness and reducing infection, prevention and control of key groups, key institutions and key regions, and giving priority to the rescue and vaccination of elderly patients) as the focus of the next step, while the "three easy" (easy to understand , easy to do, easy to obtain) as a foothold.

"Simply put, 'easy to understand' is to let people who fight against the epidemic at home know how to choose and use Chinese medicine correctly; 'easy to do' means to be able to unify the plan, and to train and promote Hong Kong's on-the-job Chinese medicine practitioners in a standardized form; 'easy to get' It is to let the anti-epidemic people get the guidance on the use of traditional Chinese medicine in a simple way, and let everyone get help through easy-to-understand popular science propaganda." Tong Xiaolin explained.

"Another consensus is that in terms of intervention, it is hoped that traditional Chinese medicine can intervene as soon as possible and cover it comprehensively, such as the prevention of close contact and sub-close contact, and the extension of rehabilitation methods during the recovery period." Tong Xiaolin said.

Prevention before disease, prevention of degeneration after disease, prevention of recovery after recovery.

Tong Xiaolin, for example, said that in the fight against the new crown pneumonia epidemic in Wuhan in 2020, traditional Chinese medicine also adopted a whole-chain intervention model and achieved good results.

"During our stay in Wuhan, one of the biggest impressions given to us is that traditional Chinese medicine must intervene at an early stage, and the sooner the better. We give drugs for close and sub-close contact, which is an early intervention. At the same time, we treat mild, common and severe patients. Treatment, coupled with subsequent rehabilitation, forms a whole chain of intervention. This plays a very important role in reducing the incidence and enhancing the treatment effect." Tong Xiaolin said.

In Wuhan, the spread of the epidemic was stopped at an early stage by distributing large-scale drugs in the community in a short period of time and treating with Tongzhi.

Tong Xiaolin said that for Hong Kong's fight against the epidemic, the Tongzhi prescription also applies.

"Tongzhi prescription actually grasps the core pathogenesis and adds or subtracts it according to different situations. The current number of infected people in Hong Kong has reached one million. After summarizing the characteristics of Hong Kong's population, geographical characteristics and seasons, we believe that the use of general treatment There is no problem with the prescription. Lianhua Qingwen Capsules, Jinhua Qinggan Granules, Huoxiangzhengqi and Shufeng Jiedu Capsules are all Chinese patent medicines promoted in the ninth edition of the diagnosis and treatment plan, and some of them have been successfully approved by the Hong Kong SAR government. Exemption." Tong Xiaolin said.

At the same time, Tong Xiaolin emphasized strengthening the guidance on the use of proprietary Chinese medicines, he said: "Some patients do not know the extent of their illness, nor do they know whether their body is cold or hot, so there may be adverse reactions after taking the medicine. How to deal with it may affect the overall treatment effect. Therefore, we hope to introduce guidance that can solve the doubts of most patients, and will actively communicate with the Chinese medicine community in Hong Kong.”

He also introduced that from the treatment experience in the mainland, traditional Chinese medicine has a good effect on the rehabilitation of elderly patients with new crowns.

"Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes the overall adjustment. Many elderly people have underlying diseases. Under such circumstances, it is very good for Chinese medicine practitioners to participate. Under the organization of the HA, Chinese medicine practitioners in Hong Kong also participated in the treatment of elderly patients and received positive responses. In addition, the new crown will leave sequelae in some patients. Traditional Chinese medicine is very effective for the symptoms of the respiratory system and digestive system, including the improvement of pulmonary fibrosis. Therefore, the application of traditional Chinese medicine should be expanded in the rehabilitation stage. "

Tong Xiaolin said that he would recommend the Hong Kong SAR government to fully incorporate Chinese medicine into the public medical system and establish a long-term mechanism to enable Chinese medicine to serve more Hong Kong citizens.
