A mother tries to kill her baby, claiming that she is a "devil child"

A Nevada woman is facing charges of attempted murder and abuse after giving birth to her daughter in a Las Vegas home and trying to kill her, claiming she was a demon, according to Law and Crime.

The incident happened on Saturday night, March 26, when the woman gave birth in a bathroom in a house owned by her boyfriend's relatives.

Her boyfriend said they are staying in Las Vegas so they are closer to the hospital, according to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.

While in the car, Hollingsworth allegedly attempted to kill the child by wrapping a "blanket around her head and pushing her across her face".

The defendant later admitted that she "pressed the blanket against the girl's nose and face" two or three times for five or 10 seconds at a time.

When they arrived at the hospital early last Sunday, the woman was "bleeding profusely", refused admission, and fled, authorities said it took two hours to find her.

After they found her, they found her with bruises and swelling on her face, and the documents indicated that the injuries were "self-inflicted", meaning that she was the one who hit herself.

The police said that investigations revealed that Hollingsworth had made "strange" statements about the girl's being evil and demonic, and that she had also allegedly asked her boyfriend to punch her in the face.

Her boyfriend told the police that she referred to the newborn as a "devil child" and said she "needed to kill her".

He added that he took the child from her and carried her on his lap away from her until they reached the hospital.
