• Mister 8,

a fiction created by Teemu Nikki and Jani Pösö which won the prize for best long series and the prize for interpretation during the S04 of CanneSeries, is broadcast from this Friday at 9 p.m. on Canal+Séries.

  • This Finnish series in 8x30 minutes explores a rather daring and unprecedented theme in fiction, polyandry, that is to say female polygamy, all in polished black and white.

  • Why are you going to fall for this stylized Finnish marivaudage?

A daring nugget in substance and form!

Mister 8,

one of our favorites from season 4 of CanneSeries, a Finnish series in 8 x 30 minutes, created by Teemu Nikki and Jani Pösö, deals with a rather audacious and unprecedented theme in fiction, polyandry, that is to say polygamy in the feminine.

A theme explored with a rather bold aesthetic bias, the image is in a beautiful polished black and white.

On the occasion of the CanneSeries festival, which opens its doors this Friday until April 6,

Mister 8

, which won the prize for the best long series and the interpretation prize at the last edition of the Riviera festival, is broadcast from this Friday at 9 p.m. on Canal+Séries and available in full on MyCanal.

Mister 8

follows the intriguing Juho (Pekka Strang), an engineer who has just moved to Helsinki.

In a restaurant, he meets Maria (Krista Kosonen, who renews the archetype of the femme fatale), a sexy and witty thirtysomething, CEO of a family business.

It's love at first sight.

They spend the night together.

In the early morning, when Juho hopes to see the businesswoman again, she refuses.

His schedule is too busy.

"It's not feminist, it's egalitarian"

The businesswoman already has seven spouses!

Each of them is contractually assigned by the businesswoman a day of the week.

Every day has its lover, and each has its own specificity: the poet, the firefighter, the cook or even the sports coach, etc.

“Each day has its archetype.

And then what do you throw away when you fall in love?

Of course, the sex toy”, laughs the creator of the show, Jani Pösö, whom

20 Minutes

met at CanneSeries.

They are all aware of the existence of Maria's other lovers and follow their mistress's instructions to the letter.

When one of Maria's lovers breaks one of the rules imposed by the businesswoman, he gets kicked out of the "harem".

"She's a powerful woman, but ultimately I don't know if it's feminist or not.

If Maria were Marco, he would be as cold and narcissistic as she is.

In a way, I would say it's not feminist, it's egalitarian.

And it's in a different sense,” comments the Finn.

This feminine point of view often reduces men to sexual objects, while denouncing society's judgments of Maria.

"A noir thriller, in black and white, with neurons in the shape of fingernails"

Juho thus joins Maria's band of lovers, determined to eliminate his competitors.

“He wants Maria all to himself.

Maria wants everything”, sums up Jani Pösö.

And to add: “From the Finnish point of view, it's just an entertaining series on a subject that everyone discusses, namely the relationship with their boyfriend or girlfriend, more or less.

It's about modern relationships, but it's also kind of an essay on narcissism.

And it's like seeing true love,” says Jani Pösö.

Over the course of the episodes, the series oscillates between romantic comedy, storytelling, satire and thriller.

“It's a black thriller, in black and white, or a serious romantic comedy, laughs Jani Pösö.

It is quite difficult to define the genre.

You have fun watching it, but it's also so serious that at some point in the show, you're like, 'Oh my God, did I laugh about that?

In addition to its rather unique theme and sometimes wacky tone,

Mister 8

stands out from 99.9% of the other series by its two-tone aesthetic.

“Love is black and white.

This is one of the reasons.

The black and white is really elegant.

This makes it stand out in the series crowd.

Finally, with a totally modern electronic soundtrack, it's quite cool, it creates an atmosphere in which we believe in these characters”, explains the creator.

A funny series, with a fairly indefinable Nordic charm, not to be missed!
