The "Plastic Resource Recycling Law," which requires companies to reduce the number of disposable plastic products, will come into effect on April 1, and 12 items such as spoons at convenience stores and toothbrushes at hotels, which are provided free of charge, will be subject to reduction.

The law requires businesses and others to reduce the amount of disposable plastic products offered free of charge.

The target items are 12 items such

as straws and spoons handed over at convenience stores,

toothbrushes and razors prepared at hotels and inns, and

hangers and clothing covers used at cleaning shops.

Retail stores, accommodation facilities, restaurants, etc. that provide 5 tons or more of these products annually are obliged to make efforts to reduce them.

If it is required to switch to alternative materials or charge for the provision of plastic products, and if it is extremely insufficient, a recommendation will be received or the company name will be announced, and if the response does not change, a fine of 500,000 yen or less will be imposed. Will be imposed.

On the other hand, it is obligatory to make efforts for privately owned stores of less than 5 tons per year.

In line with the enforcement of the law, convenience stores and restaurant chains will begin to take measures such as switching spoons and forks to wooden and plant-derived products.

In addition, some hotels do not have toothbrushes in their rooms and put them all together at the front desk, encourage customers to bring them with them, and even at laundry shops, use thinner films for clothing covers to reduce plastics. Efforts are expected to expand.
