Around the controversial professor, the controversies follow each other but are not alike.

This Wednesday, Didier Raoult opened a symposium on the Covid-19.

Holding this event at the IHU Méditerranée Infection sparked opposition from its founding members.

“You shouldn't try too hard to control knowledge and expression,” retorted the professor at the opening of the colloquium.

“Debate is the source of all knowledge.

There are no cases in which the mechanism of knowledge has not come up against the power in place which thinks it has the monopoly of saying", he added while his successor at the head of the Institute university hospital should be designated by the end of the summer.

“Doing research with the sick in the middle”

Organized by the Réinfo Covid collective founded by the Marseille anesthetist Louis Fouché, the symposium is held for two days in the amphitheater of the IHU.

It provides for the intervention of around twenty personalities, some of whom have stood out for their position against the current of the scientific community on the epidemic.

"The way to do research in infectious diseases is to do it with the sick in the middle", asserted Professor Raoult, regretting that Inserm (National Institute of Health and Medical Research) is carrying out its research away from hospitals and their patients.

Requests for “relocation”

This is how he explained that he wanted to “reconstitute” within the IHU “what the Pasteur Institute was sixty years ago”.

In a press release dated March 24, the Armed Forces Health Service, Aix-Marseille University, the Research Institute for Development, the French Blood Establishment, the Public Assistance of Marseille Hospitals and Inserm, founding members of the IHU, had asked, in vain, for the "relocation" of this colloquium.

"The title and nature of the participants and partner associations" left, according to them, "no doubt about the objectives" of the symposium, entitled "Covid-19: first assessment of scientific knowledge and controversies".

“Hold-up” conspiratorial documentary

Among the expected speakers are Dr Laurent Toubiana, participant in the conspiratorial documentary "Hold-up", or the CNRS sociologist Laurent Mucchielli, organizer of the conference, who co-signed a study relativizing the impact of the epidemic on mortality in France.

"The twenty speakers at this conference are exclusively doctors, academics and researchers (active or retired) from the CNRS and Inserm, chosen according to their skills", reacted in a press release the union "Teaching Recherche Liberté” which, together with the association RéInfo Liberté, financed the holding of the event.
