It was in the university town of Uppsala, in 1922, that the Rasbiologiska Institutet, the Institute of Racial Biology, was born, the first in the world financed by a State, well before the one which was to be born later in Germany. Nazi.
These “researchers”, then, tried to establish scientifically the superiority of the Nordic race, in particular compared to the native Sami.
Those who were then called the Lapps were photographed and measured.
Their skeletons have been exhumed, studied.
A dark page that Sweden, a century later, is trying to turn.
