A third-party expert has received a transplant for a clinical study conducted by a group such as Keio University for the first time in the world to transplant cells that are the source of nerves created from iPS cells into patients with injured spinal cord. As a result of evaluating the progress of, it was found that we have summarized the view that there is no problem with safety at this time.

In response to this, the group has decided to proceed with a second transplant.

This clinical study is being carried out by a group of Professor Hideyuki Okano and Professor Masaya Nakamura of Keio University School of Medicine. Last December, a patient with a spinal cord injury was transplanted with cells that are the source of nerves made from iPS cells. I performed the first surgery in the world.

According to the group, we submitted data to the "Independent Data Monitoring Committee" made by a third-party expert about the progress of patients who received transplantation and asked for evaluation, and at the meeting held on the 29th, at the present time It is said that there are no serious side effects in the patient and there is no problem with safety, and there is no problem in continuing clinical research for the second and subsequent patients.

On the other hand, the effect of transplantation is not subject to evaluation this time because it will continue to be verified over a year.

In clinical research, a total of four transplants are planned, and in response to this opinion, the group will start accepting a second patient through a medical institution from next month.
