The introduction of the vaccination pass has done damage.

Two men who were remanded in custody in Guadeloupe, suspected of having planned urban violence committed there at the end of 2021, were transferred to two prisons in mainland France, said their lawyers, who dispute these transfers.

In this case, seven men have been indicted and imprisoned since January 21.

They are suspected of belonging to gangs which would have planned and organized violence which shook Guadeloupe at the end of 2021, against the backdrop of a social conflict over the vaccination pass.

The prosecution suspects them of having fomented these abuses with a view in particular to extorting funds from large groups as well as elected officials via subsidies paid to associations.

However, they are presented locally as "big brothers", mediators with idle youth.

An appeal to contest the transfer

The lawyer for one of the two detainees transferred to mainland France, Me Jeanne Hortense Louis, indicated that she had filed an appeal with the Council of State to contest the transfer.

His client, a social worker, is suspected by the courts of being an active member of a gang.

He is indicted in particular for criminal conspiracy to commit crimes and misdemeanors in an organized gang.

In a previous case, he had been sentenced to ten months' imprisonment without a warrant for illegal possession of a firearm.

According to the lawyer, the notification received stipulates that "the Basse-Terre remand center is not suitable for the prisoner that he is, that the media coverage of this case disturbs public order and that he could have a negative influence on fellow inmates".

The second suspect, a policeman, had been transferred to France "on March 17, the same day" of notification of the decision, according to his lawyer, Me Lorenza Bourgeac, whose summary to avoid this transfer was rejected by the court. administrative.

“Since their police custody they have not seen their family […] it is done to crush them psychologically”, estimated Me Jeanne Hortense Louis, her client being the father of four children.

Another suspect, imprisoned in Guadeloupe, obtained from the administrative court to benefit "without delay" from access to care, according to a decision obtained by AFP.

“It is enjoined to the director of the Baie-Mahault penitentiary center to allow, without delay” the detainee “access to the care and medical appointments he requests”, indicates this decision of the court, following a summary procedure introduced by his lawyer, Me Gladys Démocrite.
