Drummer

Taylor Hawkins

, from

Foo Fighters

, has died in Bogotá where the American band was scheduled to perform at the

Festival Estéreo Picnic

, reported that group.

"The

Foo Fighters

family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved

Taylor Hawkins

. His musical spirit and infectious laugh will live with us all forever," the band wrote on their Twitter account.

The

Fighters

added in their message: "Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that his privacy be treated with the utmost respect at this unimaginably difficult time."

Foo Fighters

was one of the headliners at the

Estéreo Picnic

where their performance was scheduled for this Friday night, and the death

of

50-year -old

Hawkins

was reported an hour before they took the stage.

One of the artists of the

Black Pumas

band , who had just taken the stage at the Estéreo Picnic, was in charge of communicating the death of

Hawkins

to the public , born on February 17, 1972 in Forth Wort (Texas).

According to local media, the artist

was found dead in the hotel room

where the band is staying in Bogotá.

Hawkins was one of the visible figures in the band alongside former Nirvana

Dave Grohl

.

At concerts he used to leave the drums behind to sing rock classics like

Under Pressure

by

Queen

and

David Bowie

or Rock n' Roll by

Led Zeppelin

.

Likewise, after the cancellation of this week's concert in Paraguay, the

Foo Fighters

musician went out to hug a girl who was playing the drums, an image that went viral.

The tragic news was immediately known, the organization of the festival reported the cancellation of the presentation of the band in Seattle.

"With a broken heart we are here to tell you some very sad news" announced the organization of the

Stereo Picnic

, which made many people in the audience burst into tears.

Hawkins

grew up in Laguna Beach, California, where he began studying conservatory music and although his specialty was drums he also played piano and guitar.

Artists who inspired his career included

Stewart Copeland

of

The Police

, and

Roger Taylor

of

Queen

.

Carlos, an attendee at

Estéreo Picnic

, wearing the band's shirt, found out about the artist's death while saving room to listen to them, through the organization's announcement, but he couldn't believe it.

For him,

Hawkins

was "the band's drummer for life" and his death has left him "turned shit".

"He was an artistic reference and an inspiration," he told Efe sadly.
