The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections has reached a new high.

As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Friday morning, the value is now 1756.4.

It was 1752.0 on Thursday and 1706.3 a week ago.

The value quantifies the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants over a period of seven days.

As the RKI further reported, citing data from the health authorities, the absolute number of new infections reported within 24 hours on Friday was 296,498.

318,387 new infections were reported the day before, compared to 297,845 a week ago.

The total number of registered cases of infection in Germany since the beginning of the corona pandemic has increased to 19,893,028.

According to the RKI, 288 further deaths related to the corona virus were registered within 24 hours.

The total number of corona deaths recorded in Germany rose to 128,110.

In the most recent weekly report, the RKI reported that the more contagious subtype BA.2 is now responsible for 72 percent of infections.

In addition to the “easier transferability of the sub-line”, the increase in cases is also due to the “withdrawal of contact-reducing measures and changed behavior in the population”.

The institute called on people to continue to be cautious.

Since the virus has recently spread more strongly among older people, the RKI advised them to get a second booster vaccination.

Workload at the health authorities “extremely high”

The situation in the health authorities is still very tense in view of the record number of corona infections.

When it comes to the capacities for recording, there is “no more room for improvement,” emphasized the chairman of the Federal Association of Physicians in the Public Health Service (BVÖGD), Johannes Nießen, to the German Press Agency.

The workload is enormous.

Nießen, who is head of the Cologne Health Office and a member of the Federal Government’s Expert Council, was dissatisfied with the current development: On the one hand, it was signaled that the omicron variant caused less severe courses and it was relaxed “against the expert council in the case of the highest number of infections”.

On the other hand, there should continue to be contact management, quarantine and isolation “like at the beginning of the pandemic and without vaccination protection”.

Bundeswehr helpers have withdrawn

Helpers from the Bundeswehr and from other parts of the district administration have now been withdrawn.

However, the offices continue to operate contact person management, at least in the case of outbreaks in care and community facilities, said Nießen.

In addition, there are now reports of unvaccinated employees in health and care facilities as part of the facility-related vaccination requirement, which has been in effect for a few days.

The school entry examinations, which the child and youth health services currently have to carry out, also require work.

In addition, the arrival of refugees from Ukraine means additional tasks of various kinds - the children are also examined before they go to daycare and school.
