The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections has reached a new high.
As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Thursday morning, the value is now 1752.0.
It was 1734.2 on Wednesday and 1607.1 a week ago.
The value quantifies the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants over a period of seven days.
As the RKI further reported, citing data from the health authorities, the absolute number of reported new infections within 24 hours exceeded the threshold of 300,000 for the first time on Thursday and was 318,387.
283,732 new infections had been reported the day before, compared to 294,931 a week ago.
The total number of registered cases of infection in Germany since the beginning of the corona pandemic has increased to 19,596,530.
According to the RKI, 300 further deaths related to the corona virus were registered within 24 hours.
The total number of corona deaths recorded in Germany rose to 127,822.
The situation in the schools is very tense
Education unions warn that schools are reaching their breaking point given the historically high rate of infection.
“The absence of teachers due to corona is currently hitting schools hard,” said Anja Bensinger-Stolze, board member of the Education and Science Union (GEW), the editorial network Germany.

The Verdi union is also opposed to lifting the mask requirement in retail.
