The status of the "Haneda Tunnel" on the Metropolitan Expressway, which has been aging for more than 50 years since its opening, was released on the 23rd.

Since water leaks due to aging have affected traffic, we plan to carry out large-scale renovation work on the Metropolitan Expressway in the future.

The Haneda Tunnel, located in Ota Ward, Tokyo, which connects the center of the Metropolitan Expressway to Haneda Airport, is the first undersea tunnel at the Metropolitan Expressway with a length of approximately 300 meters that opened in conjunction with the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

The daily traffic volume is about 100,000 vehicles, but more than 50 years have passed since the construction, and recent leaks have occurred frequently, and in 2021, lane restrictions will be imposed once a month. It is done.

On the 23rd, the ceiling of the tunnel was opened to the press, and it was confirmed that the soaked seawater flowed along the rain gutter and that the reinforced concrete such as the floor was corroded by the seawater and the surface was cracked.

The Metropolitan Expressway has been undergoing large-scale renewal and repairs in the dilapidated section since 2014, but new deterioration and damage have been confirmed in the Haneda Tunnel and other sections, and the company has taken measures with a committee consisting of experts. I am considering it.

In the Haneda tunnel, damage was found in 297 places in the five years until 2018, of which it takes a long time to replace the ceiling, so the company has an impact on traffic by installing a circuit. I want to minimize it.

Yasuo Tananaka, Director of Planning and Environment Department of the Metropolitan Expressway, said, "There is no immediate safety problem, but at the Metropolitan Expressway, the number of routes 50 years after construction is increasing, and the number of places that need to be renewed or repaired is increasing. There may be some impacts such as road closures during construction, but I would like you to understand. "
