The Producers Guild of America (PGA), the association of Hollywood producers awarded its trophies on Saturday.
Established from the votes of its some 8,000 members, the list is each year considered a good barometer for the Oscars.
For this edition, voters crowned
Coda
best film of the year.
This feature film tells the story of a hearing high school student, Ruby, juggling between her dreams of a career in music and her deaf parents whom she supports on a daily basis.
Does this remind you of something ?
It's normal:
Coda
is the American remake of
The Aries Family
by Eric Lartigau, released in 2014. It was released on Apple TV+ in August.
Coda, which won the first prize at the SAG Awards at the end of February, is therefore now well placed to compete with the big favorite
The Power of the Dog
by Jane Campion, produced by Netflix.
"It's wonderful to see the public welcome our film in this way"
“I've always been drawn to stories full of humanity,” said French producer Philippe Rousselet, co-producer of Coda, on receiving the Producers Guild of America award.
"In music, a coda means the end of a movement," observed Deaf actress Marlee Matlin, who plays Ruby's mother in
Coda
, adding, "It's wonderful to see the audience welcoming our film in such a way and it's is wonderful to make history”.
Coda
is nominated in three categories at the next Oscars: best adaptation, best actor in a supporting role for Troy Kotsur and best film.
The ceremony will be held on March 27 in Los Angeles.
