A few days ago, in Xiajie Village, Shahe City, Hebei Province, the actors of the Laohuai Naughty Shadow Puppet Art Troupe were rehearsing a shadow puppet show.

The passionate, high-pitched, clear and beautiful singing conveys the ancient and unique local atmosphere.

Since the reign of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty, Laohuai shadow play in Xiajie Village has been active in the streets and alleys of Shahe and surrounding villages, and has a history of more than 100 years.

In 2021, Shahe Shadow Play will be included in the list of representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage.

In recent years, Shahe City has actively implemented cultural revitalization and cultural poverty alleviation projects, holding various forms of mass cultural activities such as farmers' cultural festivals and cultural visits to the countryside every year.

It also regularly holds folk art competitions, carries out activities such as intangible cultural heritage entering schools, etc., to showcase the charm of intangible cultural heritage to the masses, and let intangible cultural heritage welcome "new students".
