For these reasons.. Beware of sleeping in a room with dim lighting!

A recent study warned that people who sleep in a room with dim lighting, similar to the light emitted by a silent TV, raise blood sugar levels and their heart rates accelerate.

CNN quoted the results of the study, which was published in the Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences, as saying that dim light penetrates under the eyelids, hindering sleep, even though the participants slept with their eyes closed.

During the night, the heart rate usually drops and slows, while the brain is busy repairing and reactivating the body, said study author Phyllis Zeyi, director of the Center for Circadian and Sleep Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Several studies have shown that a high heart rate at night is a risk factor for heart disease and early death in the future.

According to the American network, previous research has shown an association between artificial light at night, factors of weight gain, obesity, disturbances in metabolic function, insulin secretion and the development of diabetes, to cardiovascular disease risks.

Although the amount of nighttime light that the study participants were exposed to was small, it disrupted the slow wave and rapid eye movement phases, during which most cells are regenerated, and to this, the heart rate was higher, insulin resistance rose, and the sympathetic nervous system was (fight or flight) and the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and relaxation) are out of balance, and have been associated with high blood pressure in healthy people.

The author of the study advised to close the curtains and turn off the lights, with the possibility of using a sleeping mask, while starting to dim the lights an hour or two before bedtime at a minimum. Ground level, so that it is more reflective than directly parallel to your eyes or the level of your bed.
