• Health New public health surveillance network that will change the scenarios of action against Covid

In the

new roadmap to monitor the transition phase of

the pandemic, the use of anti-Covid tests under medical prescription will be limited and quarantines will be eliminated, except in vulnerable places.

The

Surveillance and Control Strategy against Covid-19

is being agreed between the autonomous communities and Health and worked from the experts' presentation to leave behind the water phase of the pandemic, that is why in the new title the 'detection early'.

Among the main changes that this new strategy will bring is a

more rational use of tests to detect SARS-CoV-2 infection

.

Doctors will be the ones who prescribe the diagnostic test for active infection (PDIA) -PCR tests or similar- to patients who they judge have suspected symptoms.

With this step, it will be possible to differentiate between people who are hospitalized for coronavirus and with the pathogen.

In the first, the pathology developed would be attributed to the infection itself and, in the second, in hospitalization for another reason it is detected that the patient also has coronavirus.

On the other hand, for now

the antigen tests sold in pharmacies will continue to be useful

for self-diagnosis and will be available in pharmacies.

Quarantines will also

be removed

.

They will no longer be mandatory, unless the doctor deems it so.

They will be imperative in environments with vulnerable people.

Thus, the duration of isolation will be five days in residences, where the fifth day must be passed after 24 hours without symptoms, and another five days for cases detected in the hospital environment, with a test to remove it.

With this strategy, covid control measures are established until the sentinel system is implemented with which acute respiratory infections will be monitored, which the Ministry of Health and the autonomous communities have committed to establishing before the first quarter of 2023. This The transitory surveillance system must have the capacity to "detect increases in the incidence in the general population, which allows the detection of new variants and the measurement of vaccine effectiveness".

These guidelines agree with those presented last week by the Community of Madrid.

Elena Andradas, director of Public Health, explained that "now we must focus on severe forms and vulnerable people (elderly people, immunosuppressed people, pregnant women). That is, use the tests from a clinical point of view and under medical prescription."

This does not mean taking an irreversible step forward, since "it does not mean lowering our guard either, because monitoring will continue through epidemiological and care indicators, monitoring the presence of new variants and everything early in order to reverse the strategic framework , if necessary", pointed out the director from Madrid.

With this battery of measures, the

Covid-19 Early Detection, Surveillance and Control Strategy

, launched in the first wave and last updated last December, is left behind.

Regional sources explain that they have been working on this new document for weeks and that it is necessary to start it up in order to better manage resources in the face of the new demands of the pandemic.

At the gates of this transition phase, Spain already has 51.3% of the population protected with a booster dose and 32.2% of children between 5 and 11 years of age with the full regimen, according to the latest report from Health vaccination.

However, despite the high vaccination coverage, the transmission of the virus is on the rise in at least 12 communities in the last week.

This has meant that the cumulative incidence over 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants has not fallen below 400 and its latest value of 445.80 represents an increase of more than 13 points since last Friday.
