Jordan.. Clarification from the Minister of Education about a controversial image

The Jordanian Minister of Education, Dr. Wajih Owais, said that the Ministry of Education is keen on the curricula and removing distortions from it.

And he indicated, in statements, yesterday, Friday, that the picture circulating on social media of two children attached to each other, with the phrase “Like me” written on it, is not part of the school curriculum in Jordan.

The minister indicated that the picture is from her worksheets that the teacher prepared for his students as an additional activity, and that the phrase “like me” in the picture means “like me,” stressing that it was unintentional, and it would have been better not to use it.

He explained that the ministry absolutely forbids the use of any enrichment material without passing through the specialized committees, and then goes for approval in the Education Council, stressing that all schools, including foreign ones, are subject to the ministry's law.

Owais indicated that a specialized committee from the ministry will go to the school tomorrow, Sunday, to verify the worksheet and the teacher regarding what was mentioned.

Owais stressed that the worksheet did not intend the teacher to use the word "gay" in the sense that was circulated on social media.
