The March portion of the "Special Grant Tax for Earthquake Reconstruction", which is issued semi-annually to support the finances of local governments affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, was 36.4 billion yen, which was due to the completion of many restoration and reconstruction projects. It has decreased to one-third of the year and is the lowest ever.

The "Earthquake Reconstruction Special Allocation Tax" is issued by the national government in March and September every year to support the finances of local governments affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

At a cabinet meeting on the 18th, Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Kaneko reported that 36.4 billion yen will be delivered to the relevant local governments for March.

The amount of grant for March last year exceeded 100 billion yen, but due to the completion of many restoration and reconstruction projects, it has been reduced to one-third, the lowest ever.

The breakdown is as follows:

▽ Fukushima prefecture has the largest amount at 6.7 billion yen,

followed by

▽ Iwate prefecture at 2.6 billion yen and

▽ Ibaraki prefecture at 1.5 billion yen.

In terms of municipalities,

▽ Okuma Town, Fukushima Prefecture is 2.8 billion yen,

▽ Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture and Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture are 1.5 billion yen, and

▽ Sendai City is 1.3 billion yen.

The total amount of grants for this year, including September, was 96.4 billion yen, which is about a quarter of the previous year, the lowest ever.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, "While large-scale projects such as embankments and roads have reached a certain point, it will take some time for the nuclear accident to converge, and we would like to continue to support the finances of the affected areas."
