Brut and France Télévisions are the new media partners of the Cannes Film Festival.
They replace Canal+ and speak of audience rejuvenation and a massive presence of the festival in all homes, in France and abroad.
This Thursday, during the presentation of this device, Virginie Efira was announced as mistress of the opening and closing ceremonies.
Give a facelift to the festival, bring it more massively into homes and make it accessible worldwide.
These are the three watchwords hammered out throughout the press conference which brought together the heads of France Télévisions and Brut, the two new media partners around the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival.
First info, and not least, the opening and closing ceremonies will be shortened and it is the actress Virginie Efira who will officiate twice as mistress of ceremonies.
The rest is more vague.
What about the climbs of the steps, for example, announced both on France Télé on the web, Culture Box on TNT, but also on TikTok via a mysterious “specific program with a device at the entrance to the projection room”.
“Everything is still in preparation”, assures Renaud Le Van Kim, the boss of Brut…
Neither glitter, nor money flowing
Back to certainties.
We will be able to see "at least one emblematic film of the festival each evening",
Télématin
and
C'est à vous
will be live from the Croisette and the 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. newspapers will be widely used.
France Télé and Brut promise to “pool their efforts” and “work in synergy”, if only to reduce costs.
“Glitters and money flowing freely are not the trend in public service,” warns Delphine Ernotte.
Glitter, no, but why not fun through the formats offered with Brut for the festival accounts on TikTok, Snapchat or Instagram.
Brut will also open a YouTube channel, with the stated desire to open up to young artists and foreign cinematographies that are little exposed in France.
Even if Thierry Frémaux has split a beautiful tribute of "child of TV", citing the very emblematic
Ciné-Club
by Claude-Jean Philippe and
Le Cinéma de Minuit
by Patrick Brion as references, we felt it all monopolized by the selection he is preparing, even formalizing the return to Cannes of Tom Cruise with
Top Gun: Maverick
.
And France Télé to promise: “That day, all our programs will be devoted to him”.
Not a word, however, to confirm
Elvis
by Baz Luhrmann (with Austin Butler and Tom Hanks) or
Three Thousand Years
by George Miller (with Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba) in the official selection.
“I have told you enough for today.
Thierry Frémaux prefers to save his effects for his next meeting with the press, that of the presentation of the films, on Thursday April 14.
