His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated yesterday, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the first phase of the Al Hosn Heritage Neighborhood project in the city of Kalba.

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi toured the corridors of the neighborhood, whose revival and restoration comes according to the directives of His Highness, because the region constitutes a historical and archaeological heritage, and a witness to the social and economic life of the city in the past, and to constitute a tourist landmark for visitors from different regions.

His Highness was also briefed on the remaining stages of the restoration and revival of the area, and listened to a detailed explanation about the progress of the works in it, and the most prominent archaeological evidence discovered during the restoration operations.

The neighborhood includes the hospital, whose doors have been redesigned, in addition to displaying the collectibles of the therapist at the time in its exhibition rooms.

The neighborhood also includes, according to data and information, 15 old houses that were demolished and reconstructed, and five of them were opened in the current stage, to complete the remaining houses in the coming stages.

The neighborhood includes the heritage market, which was reconstructed in a larger than its original size to include 16 shops for entrepreneurs who are young Emirati entrepreneurs.

As for the old heritage mosque, it was renovated, maintained and expanded, as it had been subjected to many demolitions and construction in the past. The previous drawings and inscriptions on the pulpit and the mihrab were taken into consideration.

His Highness also inaugurated the House of Sheikh Saeed bin Hamad Al Qasimi, which has been restored and rehabilitated, as it is one of the most important heritage landmarks in the Emirate of Sharjah, and one of the most prominent evidence of the emirate’s ancient economic and cultural role. It was built between 1898 and 1901 opposite the historical fortress of the city on Kalba Beach. Which witnessed at that stage an active commercial movement that left its traces in the general civilized scene.

The house of Sheikh Saeed bin Hamad Al Qasimi has witnessed previous restoration operations, and today it has opened its doors to visitors to learn about its historical holdings and its architecture that bears an Arab historical and Islamic imprint, and to tell through its holdings the story of the region and its historical role.

Yesterday, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the clock tower located at the intersection of Al Wahda Street and Corniche Street in Kalba.

His Highness then inaugurated the innovative water fountains surrounding the tower, which operate on a clock system, as it includes 12 main fountains representing the number of hours and 60 sub-fountains representing the number of minutes.

His Highness toured the corridors of the tower to see its most prominent facilities and contents and its distinctive and charming views of the city of Kalba, as it includes two balconies for sightseeing, the first is located on the fifth floor at a height of 33 meters, and contains a restaurant for visitors.

The second is located on the seventh floor, at an altitude of 46 meters above sea level, and provides a wonderful view of the city and its surrounding places, such as Kalba Lake, the University of Sharjah, Kalba Commercial Center, the Mangrove Reserve and the surrounding mountains.

The clock tower is 60 meters high, with a total area of ​​668 square meters and an area of ​​2,532 square meters for the corridors leading to it.

The tower consists of seven floors, topped by a huge clock, five meters in diameter, which can be seen from all over the city.

The architectural character of the tower is characterized by its modern Islamic decorations covering its sides, with a spacious dome covered with gilded mosaic, in addition to the various Islamic decorations on the four facades of the building.

His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, was briefed on the vicinity of the Clock Tower Square, which includes green areas with a total area of ​​2,100 square meters, and 940 parking spaces along the Corniche Street to serve the tower's visitors, in addition to expanding the square.

The clock tower project and the areas surrounding the square were also provided with parking, safe pedestrian paths, and a tunnel leading to the clock tower with a length of 65.7 meters, which includes a number of murals of the most important ancient and modern landmarks in the city of Kalba.
