It has become the majority in France, and the Pays-de-la-Loire are no exception.

The Omicron BA.2 sub-variant, described as more contagious but not necessarily more severe, has sent outbreak indicators back up in the region in recent days.

According to the Regional Health Agency, the incidence rate has indeed increased by 21% in one week, rising to 661 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Thursday.

“We also note a notable acceleration in the positivity rate (28.8%), indicates Dr. Pierre Blaise.

However, we do not expect a major wave.

According to the ARS, the new subvariant currently accounts for 70% of cases in the region.

Fewer hospitalizations

However, “projections do not suggest an oversaturation of hospital services”, even if vigilance is required due to an influenza epidemic which has been raging “for two weeks”.

Regarding the Covid, “there are currently 577 people hospitalized, including 47 in intensive care, rates which are the lowest in France, welcomes Jean-Jacques Coiplet, the director of the ARS.

These are very encouraging data even if we continue to urge caution, respecting barrier gestures.

The Regional Health Agency hopes that the arrival of fine weather "will make it possible to flatten the wave".

In the meantime, she invites the population to continue to be vaccinated, while vaccination coverage has still reached 86.9% in Pays-de-la-Loire.
