On March 14 local time, Yang Jiechi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, clarified China's position on the situation in Ukraine during their meeting with National Security Assistant to the US President Sullivan in Rome, Italy.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that China does not want to see the situation in Ukraine come to this point.

China has always advocated respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and abiding by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

China is committed to promoting peace talks, and the international community should jointly support the Russia-Ukraine peace talks to achieve substantive results as soon as possible, and push the situation to cool down as soon as possible.

All parties should exercise maximum restraint, protect civilians and prevent a large-scale humanitarian crisis.

China has provided emergency humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and will continue to make its own efforts to this end.

Yang Jiechi said that the history of the Ukraine issue should be straightened out, its origins should be traced back to the source, and the legitimate concerns of all parties should be responded to.

Taking a long-term perspective, actively advocate the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, encourage relevant parties to conduct equal dialogues, and seek to build a balanced, effective and sustainable European security mechanism in accordance with the principle of indivisibility of security, so as to maintain peace in Europe and the world.

Yang Jiechi stressed that China firmly opposes any words and deeds that spread false information, distort and smear China's position.
