The New York police are looking for a man who apparently aimed at the homeless.

First, a homeless man was shot and injured in Lower Manhattan on Saturday morning.

In the afternoon, the body of a homeless man was found in a sleeping bag in the same area, who had died from shots in the head and neck.

Footage from a surveillance camera showed that a man shot the sleeping man early in the morning shortly after the first incident.

According to media reports, another homeless person was found dead on Sunday evening.

This also has a "possible gunshot wound," reported the broadcaster NBC, citing the investigators.

New York Mayor Eric Adams, a former police officer, spoke of "horrific" acts and called on potential witnesses to come forward.

These are senseless attacks on people "who have done nothing and are just sleeping on the street".

Adams urged homeless people in New York to contact the authorities to find a safe place to stay.
