A working team from the Ministry of the Environment has compiled the latest estimates that a huge Nankai Trough earthquake will generate about 11 times more disaster waste than the Great East Japan Earthquake.

According to the report, the Nankai Trough's huge earthquake and tsunami will destroy buildings and wash away household goods, generating 209.90 million tons of disaster waste nationwide.

This is about 11 times the 20 million tons caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

At the stage of last year, it was estimated to be 247 million tons, but it is about 11% less than that, about 27 million tons, and the work team cites it because the building has become earthquake resistant during this period. I am.

By region, the Shikoku region had the largest share at 66.74 million tons, followed by the Chubu region at 53.35 million tons and the Kinki region at 38.45 million tons.

It is estimated that 25 vessels and 5,300 10-ton trucks will be required to complete the disposal of disaster waste in three years with wide-area response, and the work team will also investigate cases of transportation by rail in the future. I am doing it.

In addition, when disposing of disaster waste by incineration, greenhouse gas emissions are also an issue, so we are working on estimation of emissions and methods for reducing emissions.
