Benedict Cumberbatch has a message for those who think stars are out of touch with reality and the problems of this world.

While on the red carpet of the BAFTAs this Sunday, the comedian, nominated in the category of Best Actor (which he did not win, by the way), wore a badge in the colors of Ukraine.

Asked about this symbol of support for the country invaded by Russia, the star of

Sherlock

announced that he intended to get involved directly to help the populations affected by the conflict.

“It's a really shocking time for a European who is a two and a half hour flight from Ukraine, and it's something that weighs on us as well.

We all need to do more than wear a badge,” he said in an interview relayed by Reuters.

do everything we can

How does Benedict Cumberbatch intend to help?

By taking part in the initiative put in place by the government of Boris Johnson, which consists of encouraging the British to welcome Ukrainian refugees into their homes in exchange for compensation of 350 pounds sterling per month, or approximately 416 euros.

“We need to donate, we need to pressure our politicians to continue to create some kind of safety for refugees and a haven here for people who are suffering.

Everyone should do everything they can… There have been a record number of people who have volunteered to welcome people into their homes, and I hope to be one of them, ”assured the actor.

A website, to allow members of the public as well as charities to volunteer to host refugees, is to be set up today in the UK.

According to the BBC, more than 2.5 million people have already left Ukraine since the start of the conflict.
