"I can only do that against the ugliness of the world"

And it is true that

I love America

presents the departure of its heroine for a new life in Los Angeles as an absolute fantasy.

"It's true that I hear a lot of people telling me 'Oh la la, if I could, if I had the means, if I had the courage, if I didn't have this, if I didn't have that'. And I'm lucky enough to be able to do things that sometimes people can't do, "says Lisa Azuelos on Europe 1. "And my job is to fill their imagination with beauty. I can only do that against the ugliness of the world."

A desire to make things beautiful and to offer dream parentheses that is not always perceived.

"In France, I am often criticized for making films that are just a little too beautiful and care bears", observes director Lisa Azuelos, who confirms that she does not "talk about drama".

And explain this bias.

"I think the world is full of drama enough and drama doesn't need me to exist," she said.

"On the other hand, the dream, the light, the color, the beauty, the love. Sometimes it needs me and for them, I am there, I make films."
