It's confirmed, the characters of Maggie and Negan, played by Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in

The Walking Dead

, will be entitled to their spin-off.

AMC has just announced the news, revealing in passing that it will be a six-episode season that will see the duo explore a post-apocalyptic Manhattan.

As you can imagine, the danger will come as much from the zombies as from the human beings who make society there, somehow.

"It's a great day for the expanding universe we're building around The

Walking Dead

," said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment at AMC Studios and AMC Networks, in a statement relayed by

Variety

.

An expanding universe

“It doesn't just add a powerful new series to this set.

It allows us to develop our story through two unforgettable characters that fans have come to love, then hate, or hate and then love, namely Maggie and Negan, brilliantly played by Lauren and Jeffrey.

It also lets us explore a corner of this universe located on the island of Manhattan, with an iconic setting that takes on a very different meaning when viewed from the perspective of a zombie apocalypse,” added Dan McDermott.

This spin-off series, already called

Isle of the Dead

, is scheduled for broadcast on AMC and AMC Plus in 2023. Until then, the broadcast of the 24 episodes of the eleventh and final season of

The Walking Dead

 continues.

The series will come to an end by the end of the year.
