Distinguished President of the United Nations Human Rights Council, I would like to say something about the global war against COVID-19.

First of all, let me reiterate: survival is the most fundamental human right!

China believes that life is priceless, and proves to the world its responsibility to protect its people with actual data.

I implore the leaders of nations around the world to stop playing with people's lives and start respecting people (the right to exist).

[Commentary] The guy in the picture is named Wu Zequan, a young practicing doctor in Hong Kong.

On March 9, his English speech at the United Nations Human Rights Council detonated the Internet and attracted widespread attention.

On March 10, Wu Zequan said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from China News Agency that he hopes to speak for his country on the international stage in this way.

I hope to show the international community and let the compatriots in the mainland know that some Hong Kong people are patriotic, some Hong Kong people are capable, some Hong Kong people have the ability to distinguish right from wrong, and have the courage to stand up and speak up for their own country. To defend the principle, I think it is very important.

[Explanation] Since the fifth wave of the epidemic, Hong Kong's public hospitals have been like battlefields. The utilization rate of wards is on the verge of saturation, and there is an endless stream of patients.

As a practicing doctor, Wu Zequan has witnessed the hardships and difficulties of Hong Kong medical staff who stick to the front line.

In the emergency room and internal medicine, not only doctors, but also nurses have to go into the intensive care unit to take care of patients. They have to help patients suck sputum and wipe their bodies. These are completely (very dangerous).

Under the circumstance that the patient has been infected with the new crown virus, it is very respectable to have such close contact and help them to do such high-risk actions, so that they themselves are in a place like a battlefield to work.

[Commentary] Wu Zequan said frankly that when Hong Kong's front-line medical staff were struggling to support, the timely assistance of the central and mainland compatriots effectively curbed the exponential rise of the epidemic, and also gave hope to Hong Kong people who were trapped in the epidemic.

Because for a while we feel so hesitant, so lost, and even a sense of helplessness.

But when the central government sent us these supplies, Hong Kong people found out that the central government continued to care for Hong Kong people during this epidemic.

Some medical staff left their hometowns and came to Hong Kong for several months without seeing their family members, helping us unconditionally.

In fact, they may not do this, but because everyone is a family, they are there to help us, so we have to respect them.

The central government is very willing and generous to help us. It built a hospital in seven days and sent us unlimited supplies. However, how will we use these materials in the next step, how to deal with these materials, and how to arrange these human and material resources? The government should assume the main responsibility.

[Explanation] Born and raised in Hong Kong since childhood, Wu Zequan went to Johns Hopkins University to study public health after graduating from the University of Hong Kong Medicine.

The experience of studying abroad made him pay special attention to international affairs.

Talking about the Ukraine issue, which has attracted worldwide attention recently, Wu Zequan said that the U.S. has repeatedly used the Ukraine issue to smear and smear China recently, which is absurd and despicable.

There are problems in two countries. Let me make an analogy. It seems that some people like to use computers to calculate, and some people like to use abacus to calculate.

A person who uses a computer to do calculations will say when he sees a person next to him who does not listen to him, you must use a computer to do calculations. If you don’t use it, I will find some people to beat you. This is the United States.

And China sees you being beaten, so why don't I give you some bandages, stop beating, try to separate them as much as possible, and try your best to negotiate. This is what China does.

He will even give you an abacus, you can use an abacus, you can use a computer, you can decide for yourself what is best.

I think this is a real (respectful) attitude towards peace.

[Explanation] In 2019, as one of the convener, Wu Zequan and a group of Hong Kong youth established the "China Story Opinion Leaders Alliance", whose members include Hong Kong youth district councilors, doctors, lawyers, financial analysts, etc.

He said that he hopes to tell the "Chinese story" to the world through the perspective of Hong Kong youth, so that the world can hear the real voice of Hong Kong and China.

Including our Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and even Weibo, and some social media in foreign countries, mainland China, and Hong Kong, we have opened accounts and started our work.

I have seen that some colleagues have even been interviewed on the BBC, and some brothers and sisters have made a refutation in the international community for some slanderous remarks against China, some wrong remarks, and there are also different brothers and sisters. All of them have spoken at the United Nations. We hope to unite with some people with the same aspirations to tell some good stories to everyone and let the international community hear them.
