A Disney spokesman told Variety on Thursday that the company plans to halt all operations in the country, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Already last week, Disney announced that it will pause all new film premieres in Russia:

"After the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis in the country, we are pausing all cinema premieres in Russia," a Disney spokesman said at the time.

The company is now taking further measures with the aim of completely closing down its operations in the country.

TV channels can be stopped

Disney owns and operates several linear TV channels in Russia, as well as a Disney cruise, which departs from St. Petersburg.

Even National Geographic, which is owned by Disney, will no longer be available in Russia.

Disney is also the owner of several of the world's largest entertainment brands (such as Marvel, Pixar and Star wars).

Exactly how and to what extent these are affected by the decision is not known.

The staff can continue to work

“We will stop some of these activities immediately.

"Other activities, such as linear TV channels and certain product licenses, we will not be able to remove as quickly due to the nature of the agreements," said a Disney spokesman.

The company's staff in Russia will be allowed to keep their jobs, the company announces.

Amazon, Netflix and WarnerMedia have previously decided to either pause or stop their operations and services in the country.
