Noir sur blanc

His favorite quote:

“My father, more and more disconnected from our family reality, saw nothing or pretended not to see anything.

He didn't understand what was at stake, our special, unique relationship, sacrificed on the altar of passion.

Love makes you stupid.

Love isolates.

Love makes people do hideous things.

My father this zero.

Why this book?

  • Because Pascal, the hero, is not a friendly character.

He can even act like a damn selfish, self-centered prick.

    And yet, he is endearing.

  • Because this dive into the 1980s

vibrates with an infectious passion for the popular culture of the time.

We see images of films, music videos and we hum some unforgettable tunes.

    We share Pascal's tastes.

  • Because all the characters are sketched

with a vigorous pen which makes the book devour in one go.

There is no fat in this first novel.

  • Because the hero's discomfort becomes ours

even in his most stupid and brutal decisions.

  • Because Christophe Narbonne does not sanctify either the past

or adolescence to guide Pascal towards adulthood.

His book never falls into the nostalgia of “It was better before”.

It describes a specific character at a given period in a clinical way, although humor often points its nose.

  • Because the author does not choose the facility at any time

and he surprises until the last line of the book.
