Faced with strong pressure from activists and regulators, the social network Facebook is accelerating in the development of new tools to fight misinformation.

Facebook will now use both artificial intelligence and recognized media to combat false information on its platform.

Facebook is regularly singled out for hosting a lot of false information.

The platform is thus facing strong pressure from activists and regulators who are urging it to strengthen its fight against fake news, particularly on Covid-19 and the war in Ukraine.

The social network announces that it is developing new tools to fight misinformation.

On Wednesday, Facebook unveiled several measures to protect its nearly 3 billion monthly active users from false information.

Measures targeting Facebook groups

The platform assured that it will now use artificial intelligence to block posts containing false facts.

Administrators of groups on Facebook can, for example, authorize software to automatically reject messages if they present information characterized as false by fact-checkers.

These fact checkers are human.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, already pays 80 media around the world, including AFP, to check the content on its platform.

In addition, Facebook has also updated its "suspend" button.

This feature now allows group admins to temporarily ban certain members from posting or commenting on group posts.

The platform had already launched its Facebook News tab in France last month.

This is a news feed of journalistic content aimed at combating misinformation.

This space should be available throughout France by next May.
