Gendarmes organize in Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor) self-defense courses for women victims of domestic violence.
The objective of the sessions is to teach the gestures allowing to give or dodge blows, but also to help the participants to regain self-confidence.
These sessions are part of half-day workshops, says France Bleu Armorique.
Non-judgmental interactions
The soldiers also remind the women present of the telephone numbers and structures available to provide them with assistance.
"We are here to help them, to tell them that they are capable of defending themselves, without offending them or traumatizing them and above all without passing judgment", explained René Le Sénéchal, workshop leader and sports instructor of the Peloton. Surveillance and Intervention of the Gendarmerie.
Some of the participants still live with the perpetrator of the domestic violence.
Others rub shoulders with him from time to time, in particular for the sharing of custody of their children.
"We should have a session every month," said one of the participants, seduced by these courses.
