• On Thursday, a convoy of paramedics will bring medical equipment to Ukraine.

  • These vehicles, which will leave for the most part from Nantes, will be followed by minibuses, which will return with refugees.

The meeting is fixed at 3:45.

During the night of Wednesday to Thursday, a rather special convoy will leave Nantes in the direction of Ukraine, where the war has been raging for almost 15 days.

Seven or eight ambulances, followed by a dozen minibuses, are preparing to cover the 2,000 km that separate them from the border.

“There, the population is suffering, ambulances are lacking, explains Patrick Youx, manager of the Assistance ambulance company in Rezé.

It's a drop in the bucket perhaps, but we couldn't stay there without moving.

His appeal, launched a week ago in the Loire-Atlantique department, after discussing with a colleague whose wife is Ukrainian, snowballed.

Other ambulance companies from all over France have responded to participate in this initiative called "France-Ukraine Ambulance Solidarity", and many partners, such as firefighters and hospitals, have come forward to provide them with medical material.

Vehicles will remain on site

“In total, fifteen ambulances will leave from all over France, calculates Patrick Youx, who had already mobilized in this direction for Syria, or the former Yugoslavia.

We will meet in Metz and we will finish the road together.

Once there, we will distribute basic necessities, such as bandages, tourniquets, surgical equipment, but also diapers or children's milk.

The vehicles are also donations, they will stay there.

They will be used where the needs are greatest, in particular for transfers between hospitals.

Some paramedics will stay in the conflict zone, while others will leave by bus.

A cumbersome organization but facilitated by "contacts with associations and the Quai d'Orsay", as well as with the French Embassy in Poland, through which this long convoy will pass, which should arrive at the border on Saturday morning.

Minibuses will bring refugees

Because in addition to the ambulances, several minibuses from the transport company Titi Floris will take part in the trip.

Volunteer drivers have been recruited to drive these vehicles, which will also contain multiple donations.

A collection of blankets, food, and hygiene products is still underway at the Forum Titi in Orvault, until Wednesday evening.

They will return with around forty Ukrainian refugees, who will be deposited in Germany or brought back to France, depending on the requests.

If all goes well for these fifty volunteers, a second convoy of fifteen more ambulances could leave in ten to fifteen days.

Transfers of medical equipment, including beds, are being organized with the help of a heavy weight.
