• The third season of

    Mask Singer

arrives on TF1 on Friday April 1.

  • Recorded this summer, the show is adorned with many new features and features twelve new personalities hidden under the costumes.

  • 20 Minutes

was invited to slip behind the scenes of the filming to conduct the investigation discreetly before everyone else.

We too were masked.

The production hadn't prepared an overly cute dinosaur or cupcake costume for us, but had nevertheless put aside a pretty FFP2 mask so that we could slip behind the scenes of the third edition of

Mask Singer

incognito.

On June 30, 2021, in the studios of La Plaine-Saint-Denis, the teams are preparing to shoot the second episode of the season, the broadcast of which starts on Friday April 1 on TF1.

Before you can set foot on the set, you have to show your credentials.

A large confidentiality device is put in place so that no information leaks before the broadcast of the program.

A painful and difficult act, we bend to the rules by slipping our phone into a sealed pocket: impossible to take notes or take out our camera.

The instructions are the same for everyone, except for the VIPs of the production, those who know the names of the celebrities.

Of the 300 people who work for the smooth running of the program, only about ten are aware of the line-up.

Two hours before the start of the show's recording, the set is empty while some sound tests are carried out.

Placarded on the walls, we notice posters on which appear the crossed out logos of social networks.

Revealing the identity of the personalities before the start of the season would amount to wasting several weeks of work and the very nature of the program.

Scalable costumes, two international stars...

As during the first edition, twelve stars will try the adventure, disguised as stag, chameleon, banana, cosmonaut or even tigress.

Not far from the stage, all the accessories are stored, possibly patched and above all modified.

Because this year, the costumes are evolving.

The tree, for example, will change over the episodes (it will have mushrooms at its feet in the fall), the pig will have several leotards... In total, each piece requires between 300 and 700 hours of work.

These costume upgrades aren't the only new things this season.

During the first broadcast, the four jurors will have to establish a prognosis on the identity of each character.

They will write the name of the personality they are thinking of in an envelope that will remain sealed until the celebrity's face is revealed.

This is the principle of the “golden ear”.

A year and a half ago, the program innovated by inviting an international star on the set.

Beneath the sparkling ballerina costume hid Itziar Ituño, actress of the series

La Casa de Papel

.

This year, two celebrities will come play the game, especially during the second prime we attended.

“She came last night in the greatest secrecy to work on the lifts, confides Rémi Faure, director of flow programs at TF1.

She chose the song for the text and provided feedback on the costume sketches.

She is super involved.

Anggun "on the street"

You have to take the elevator to chat with the only personalities whose identity we know: the members of the jury and the host Camille Combal.

On a lunch break, Jarry tells us a few secrets.

"The two names that came out during the first broadcast, it's high level", assures the one who left on France Televisions since the shooting.

“The two names surprised us.

Never the personalities had done that, it portends beautiful things, ”adds Alessandra Sublet.

Each of the judges, who seem thoroughly into the competition, has their techniques for unmasking the celebrities.

Jarry “looks at who are the actors who are on TF1” while Anggun “finds herself in relation to Camille who is 1m83 tall” and tries to think about the international stars who could participate in the show.

"But it's Fashion Week and the Cannes Film Festival so I'm on the street," she laughs.

Fewer and fewer clues for investigators

All agree that the indices are even thinner than the previous season.

"We're all a little confused because there are only two in the magnetos, that frustrated us a little," sighs Alessandra Sublet.

During the interviews, each interviewer also asks us if we have any information.

No luck, us, all we know is what they ate at lunchtime (fish for Anggun, in case you were wondering).

Kev Adams, he listed the names of people who could take part in the competition "but there are none in it for the moment so I wasted time for nothing", he breathes.

For the moment, the actor admits that he has not yet fully entered the game. “But I will get there, he reassures.

There needs to be someone like me on the jury.

When I'm lost, the public will feel it.

About six hours of filming

It's almost time to go down to the set.

Around the stage, the public is already installed and plays with the remote control which will be used for them, in a few minutes, to vote for the service which it prefers.

The room manager sets the mood as the investigators take their places at their table, not without a final make-up touch-up.

Just after the recording of the coming-next, Camille Combal rehearses her entrance with the dancers.

“I don't know what I'm doing,” he cries, panicking after two or three rough steps.

Impossible to reveal the names of the characters without disclosing the start of the competition.

All we know is that filming will last until around 8:30 p.m., when the public will leave the studios just before the casting reveal.

We have a small idea of the identity of the international star but our mouth is in the same place as our mobile phone: in a sealed pocket.
