Many international media decide to suspend their activities and no longer broadcast their programs in Russia.

Since the invasion of eastern Ukraine by Vladimir Putin's troops, information has been increasingly censored in Russia, making it difficult, if not impossible, for the media to work.

This is the sanction that provides for journalists, a new law of Vladimir Putin.

It targets those who disseminate information aimed at "discrediting", in the words of the Russian autocrat, the military forces invading Ukraine.

Faced with these growing threats to freedom of information, several countries have decided to act.

The German and Italian public television channels ARD, ZDF and RAI announced the temporary suspension of their coverage from Moscow, the time "to examine the consequences" of this new law.

Their objective is also to protect journalists on site.

In Spain, the first Spanish-speaking press agency in the world, EFE, as well as the newspaper

El Pais

also announced on Saturday suspending their activities in Russia.

Same decision on the side of England and the United States: the Bloomberg News agency and the news channels CNN, CBS, ABC News and the BBC have also suspended the broadcasting of their programs in the country of Vladimir Putin. 

Radio France waiting, Tik Tok frozen

For its part, Radio France (which has seven national news channels including Franceinfo and France Inter) has indicated that it is awaiting legal expertise to decide whether or not to suspend the correspondence of its journalists in Russia.

Other media like the

Washington Post

and the Reuters news agency also want to gauge developments before suspending their activities in Russia.

On the social media side, Facebook has been blocked in Russia and access to Twitter restricted.

On Sunday, the Chinese social network Tik Tok preempted Russian authorities by announcing that it was suspending the possibility of posting new videos on its platform from Russia.

For the moment, Tik Tok still maintains its messaging service.

This decision affects almost 25 million Russian users.
