The Ninth International Conference on Joint Surgery in the Middle East, held in Dubai, announced that two UAE doctors have obtained a patent from America for the use of 3D printing to correct unsuccessful joint operations and complex and difficult cases.

The conference indicated that there is another patent in the process of procedures and approval in Italy, which was submitted by two doctors from the Emirates, related to a new artificial joint that preserves all the natural ligaments inside the knee without removing them.

At the conclusion of its work in Dubai yesterday, the conference confirmed that the UAE is one of the most countries in the region in obtaining medical patents, noting the patents obtained by doctors in the field of orthopedic and joint surgery that made the country an attractive destination for patients from different countries of the region.

"The 3D printing patent for the correction of joint operations is characterized by seeing the angles of the joint with extreme accuracy, thus implanting the artificial knee in a more convenient way for the patient," said senior specialist orthopedic surgeon at Dubai Health Authority's Hatta Hospital, co-patented with the two patents, Dr. Mohamed El-Feki.

He added, "Currently, work is underway with an international company to adopt and support the mentioned patent, and it will have a major role in the success of complex and difficult joint operations."
