What happened during the broadcast of an episode of

Miraculous: The Adventures of Ladybug and Cat Noir

on TF1 on Sunday morning?

As reported by Puremédias, a user pointed out on Twitter the fact that several sequences of the episode in question had disappeared, in comparison with the version broadcast internationally.

These are scenes taking place on a bus, between the heroine's mother and a conductor, the latter reprimanding her aggressively for not having a ticket.

Faced with accusations of censorship, Thomas Astruc, the creator of the cartoon, came to the defense of the chain on Twitter.

Two cut sequences

The first sequence concerned by this cut therefore takes place in a bus during a check by Sabine Cheng, Marinette's mother.

Without a ticket, she explains that it is her daughter, who came down earlier, who has them.

“No transport ticket, it will be 50 euros!

How do you fix that?

», Assaults him the controller.

In the TF1 version, the scene ends here.

In the original version, it continues with a tense exchange and aggressive behavior from the controller that questions the sincerity of Marinette's mother.

Then comes the second sequence which raises questions.

On TF1, the action resumes when the controller makes Sabine Cheng get off the bus in order to turn to a police officer.

And that's all.

In the original version, the policeman, whose daughter is in the same class as Marinette, recognizes the arrested woman.

Embarrassed, however, he takes the controller's side and decides to take him to the station for an identity check.

The scene ends with the controller forcibly grabbing Sabine Cheng's bag.

Surprised by the violence of the gesture, she cries out against injustice.

Interesting.

The episode of #MiraculousLadybug "Qilin" broadcast this morning on TF1 has been heavily censored.

~3mn have been removed.

A plan of the VF does not exist either in full in the English version (the bus which starts).

"No need to make a bad trial at TF1"

“So, as usual, things deserve to be more nuanced than a lot of what is going to be said,” reacted Thomas Astruc, the creator of

Miraculous

, on Twitter on Sunday.

“The purpose of this episode was to show the mechanics that can lead to injustice.

In no case, and I insist on this, was it a question of showing a bad image of an institution.

Why ?

Because we are talking about children.

We must show a good image of the institutions because they must be able to have confidence in them”, he explains in particular.

"I think the episode avoids this pitfall well, not stupidly saying cop = bad guys, but shows how when a person becomes the holder of some authority, there is the possibility of an abuse of power if this authority is used indiscriminately,” he adds.

He then explains the position of the chain.

“TF1 is legally responsible for the content broadcast.

So if for whatever reason they feel that it might be a problem, that history might be misunderstood, that institutions might feel under attack, or that it might harm the trust that every child should rightfully have in institutions, or, quite simply, that this story is too complex for them, in short, if they finally feel that what we have tried to do has not convinced them... So, even if it saddens me, I can understand that they're cutting off that passage.

Not out of authoritarianism, as many will say, but out of caution,” he says.

“There is no need to make a bad trial at TF1, crying fascism or the attack on freedom of expression, continues Thomas Astruc.

And it's the one whose job was cut who tells you.

TF1 is not CNews.

They are much more open than we imagine.

But like any media in a dominant position, all eyes are on them to watch for the slightest misstep.

They must therefore be convinced by what they broadcast.

There, they had a doubt, and concerning a program for children, the doubt is not allowed.

We may not agree, but I think the situation deserves more nuance.

Contacted by Puremédias, TF1 has not yet reacted on the subject.
