Hundreds of people flocked Sunday afternoon to Corte (Haute-Corse) for a demonstration in support of Yvan Colonna, Corsican independence activist sentenced for the assassination of the prefect Erignac, victim of an attack in prison which left him in the coma.
At the very beginning of the afternoon already, hundreds of demonstrators gathered with Corsican flags, banners "Glory to you Yvan", "French State assassin".
Sunday's demonstration was initiated by nationalist student unions, joined by all of the island's nationalist parties.
The Corsican Workers' Union (STC) also calls on its supporters and members to participate as well as associations for the defense of Corsican prisoners.
Reinforcement of three mobile forces
The Corsican Human Rights League announced on Twitter on Sunday that it was participating in the demonstration: In a letter published on Saturday, the family of the Corsican shepherd had called for demonstrations "beyond nationalist circles".
According to the Haute-Corse prefecture, the event has not been declared to the prefecture, so there is no known official route.
The authorities awaiting a large mobilization on Sunday and have sent three mobile forces as reinforcements.
The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office announced on Sunday that it would request the indictment of the attacker of Yvan Colonna, presented as a "jihadist", describing his crime as "terrorist".

In a statement sent by his lawyer, Me Patrice Spinosi, Yvan Colonna's family demanded that "the investigation shed light on the multiple administrative dysfunctions that led to this tragedy".
