• Who will be elected "favorite village of the French" 2022?

The votes are accessible from March 1 to 22 on the site of the France 3 program.

  • Among the 14 villages selected is Bergheim, a small town in the Haut-Rhin.

  • As often, the Alsatian town should be one of the favorites.

    Why ?

The banners will soon be installed, the communication campaign on social networks has already started… “And it's the excitement, we're at full speed!

laughs the mayor of Bergheim Elisabeth Schneider.

The elected official learned “at the end of January” that her city, of around 2,000 inhabitants, had been selected for the program

2022. The vote to designate the winner among the 14 candidate municipalities opened on Tuesday and stretches until March 22 inclusive, before results in early summer.

When the program presented by Stéphane Bern will be broadcast on France 3.

Suspense… Or not too much.

Since the first broadcast in 2012, the Alsatian representatives have always done well.

Better still, three are among the ten elected: Eguisheim in 2013, Kaysersberg in 2017 and Hunspach in 2020. Knowing that Andlau (2014) and Mittelbergheim (2018) had come very close to the coronation with their second place.

And that Riquewihr, without playing the game too much, had finished 6th the first year.

Why is this “election” so successful in Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin?

"Because there are very beautiful villages and they are particularly well maintained", answers Pascal Bernard, general delegate to the association "The most beautiful villages of France", unrelated to the program.

“In Alsace, there is real attention paid to the house, we don't laugh with the building, we take care of it.

A tradition of hospitality in Alsace

“It is in our culture to pay attention to heritage, to renovate roads, to enhance our property”, confirms Elisabeth Schneider, whose city has medieval ramparts, a high door from the 14th century, a 700-year-old lime tree and of course many half-timbered houses.

All surrounded by the usual geraniums, but not only, as evidenced by the 4-flower label granted for over twenty years.

"People understood, long before those in other regions, that to bring in tourists, the place had to be worth it", sums up the specialist.

“There is a real welcoming culture.

.

“I didn't take part in all the shootings, but at Hunspach for example, I remember being received with open arms.

When you arrive there, you meet passionate people who are very attached to their town and their traditions.

In Alsace perhaps more than elsewhere, there is a special atmosphere,” explains Anne Plantard, whose teams select the 14 villages each year, “with a desire to vary between the departments”.

“There is a real identity”

But Alsace often comes back and is still mobilizing as much.

“There is a real identity.

They are proud of their territory and want to share this feeling.

This is also why their capacity for mobilization is impressive, as in Brittany for example”, continues Pascal Bernard, whose 2021 guide listed 164 villages.

Including two from Bas-Rhin (Hunspach and Mittelbergheim) and three from Haut-Rhin (Eguisheim, Hunawihr and Riquewihr).

A total of five which could increase to… six this summer.

Because Bergheim is also in the running to display the famous white and red sign at its city entrances.

"It's off to a good start, but a quality commission still has to vote", reveals the general delegate without going too far.

No need, the result is almost known.

It is often Alsace that wins...
