The war in Ukraine raises, for many analysts, the thorny question of Taiwan: could China follow in Russia's footsteps and turn to the island?

Stéphane Corcuff is a lecturer in geopolitics of the Chinese world at the IEP in Lyon and associate researcher at the CEFC.

According to him, the parallel is legitimate, except that the way China handled the Ukrainian crisis does not suggest that it immediately had Taiwan in mind.

Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping met on the eve of the Beijing Olympics and affirmed a " 

limitless

" partnership  , supporting each other in the standoffs over Ukraine and Taiwan and promising to collaborate more against the West.

But China seems more measured than expected in its support.
