Candidate and “at the same time” president.

In a letter published Thursday evening in many titles of the regional daily press, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron confirmed that he "seeks the confidence" of the French for a second term on April 10 and 24.

“I am a candidate”, writes Emmanuel Macron.

If the letter was published in full in certain titles of the regional daily press (

Ouest France, Sud-Ouest, Le Parisien

), it was not in full in the pages of

La Voix du Nord

.

The newspaper's editor, Patrick Jankielewicz, explained the choice in a Twitter thread.

“The question arises of course and it already divided our readers yesterday.

Emmanuel Macron candidate is not Emmanuel Macron president ”, he advances.

And to explain: “When he speaks in the context of the campaign, he does so like all the other candidates, who have for the most part announced their intention in press conferences.

We could question them and their answers were analyzed, dissected, before landing in our pages.

"Establish an imbalance between the candidates"

The editor-in-chief thus believes that “publishing this letter to the French in extenso in our newspaper would create an imbalance between the candidates”.

Readers of

La Voix du Nord

can however find the full letter from Emmanuel Macron on the site of the regional daily.

"We will do the same if other candidates send us such a text", announces Patrick Jankielewicz.

An editorial choice shared by the titles of the Ebra group (

Le Républicain Lorrain

,

L'Est Républicain

,

Le Progrès

,  etc.).

“We published it this evening in full on our sites, tomorrow there will be decryptions with quotes.

(…) We proposed to all the main candidates, including Emmanuel Macron, to come face to face with our readers in order to be able to do in-depth work on their program, to answer questions and their daily concerns.

We wanted to have symmetry, ”said Claire Planchard, editor-in-chief of the group’s general information office on France Info on Thursday.
