The veterans insisted on delivering food for six years, passing on the spirit of Lei Feng from generation to generation

In 2002, Wang Yong from Bayan County, Heilongjiang Province was drafted into the army in his hometown and served in a certain regiment of the former Shenyang Military Region Engineers where Lei Feng was alive.

During his service, Wang Yong took the initiative to fight many times, actively participated in voluntary activities, and was repeatedly rated as an advanced individual.

In 2014, 29-year-old Wang Yong retired from the army and chose to start a business, running a vegetable business in his hometown.

In May 2016, Wang Yong came to Nanjing for family reasons. He rented a stall on the second floor of a vegetable market in Dingjiazhuang, Qixia District, and continued to work as an "old business".

Wang Yong’s vegetable garden is located in the affordable housing area of Dingjiazhuang, Nanjing, and the proportion of elderly people living alone and widows in the community is extremely high.

In the summer of 2016, Wang Yong visited dozens of families in need with the help of the community.

"There is a family with a great-grandmother with a great-granddaughter. The little girl has good grades, and the certificate of award is posted on a wall. During the day, she goes to school, and the great-grandmother picks up empty bottles and cartons nearby to sell money to support the family." The innocent little girl let Wang Yong thought of his daughter, and the visit touched him a lot.

From that day on, Wang Yong began to deliver vegetables and other daily necessities to the needy households every week.

Let helping others become a common practice, 230 caring merchants have warmed more than 3,000 residents

After learning about Wang Yong's deeds, the market side and the community jointly established the "Love 1+1 Linking Heart Post", calling on more business owners to enter the community, "Your family will provide some oil, my family will provide some rice, and his family will provide some food. ”, so that a richer variety of loving dishes can be delivered to those in need.

As of the eve of Lei Feng Day in 2022, 230 caring merchants have joined the "Love 1+1 Linking Heart Post".

According to Cai Changhuan, the marketing manager, in the past few years, Wang Yong and the operators around him have contributed more than 8,000 dishes of love, with a total price of more than 700,000 yuan, which warmed more than 3,000 residents in the surrounding communities.

In addition, on holidays, we will deliver necessities such as rice, flour, oil and other daily necessities to the elderly in need of help in the community.

In 2020, several caring companies took the initiative to contact Wang Yong. After inspection, they expressed their willingness to invest in "upgrading and upgrading" the "caring dishes" on the original basis to help the lonely and widowed elderly people in the community improve their quality of life.

"Now there are not only vegetables and rice noodles, but also spare ribs, chicken legs, and fruits." Wang Yong told reporters.

In order to deal with each donation openly and transparently, Wang Yong specially prepared an account book to record every detail of the caring dish, and will regularly feed back to the caring enterprise.

"Hopefully the 'love dish' and the spirit of Lei Feng can continue to be passed on"

"Vegetable business is very tough." When talking about family, Wang Yong confided to a reporter from the Yangzi Evening News.

After the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, as a link in the supply chain, Wang Yong's daily work has become more trivial and intensive, and he has not returned to his hometown in Heilongjiang for six years.

"When I was discharged from the army, my daughter hadn't gone to kindergarten, and now she's in fourth grade, and I haven't picked her up once." Wang Yong told reporters that at the beginning, his wife and daughter gave me "love dishes" for free. Very incomprehensible.

In 2017, Wang Yong's daughter came to Nanjing from Heilongjiang for the summer vacation. He brought her daughter to deliver food to the lonely elderly. Only then did her daughter really understand him.

"As long as I can do it for one day now, I want to do a good job and bring more people to join in. In this way, whether I am in Nanjing or not in the future, there will still be a group of people here who can persist in doing this." Lei Feng Spirit And "love dish" has never been a label that belongs to Wang Yong alone.

Even if he returns to his hometown, he will not lose his "old work".

At the same time, he also hopes that the "love dish" can continue in the Dingjiazhuang vegetable market like the spirit of Lei Feng, and benefit more groups in difficulties.

"If you were the smallest screw, would you always stick to your position in life?" Facing the question of life from the old monitor Lei Feng, Wang Yong handed in his answer.

No matter the winter, the heat, the wind and the rain, every Monday morning, caring dishes are never absent from the food baskets of the poor people in Dingjiazhuang. This is the responsibility of Wang Yong and caring merchants, and it is also the common expectation of the community and caring enterprises.
