• On March 21, a piece of eloquence entitled

    The TikTok trial

will be played on the stage of the Mogador theater.

  • Nine influencers will take their first steps on the boards to defend or accuse the application that made them popular.

  • Less than a month from the performance,

    20 Minutes

has slipped an eye and an ear behind the scenes of the rehearsals.

At the end of the month, the Mogador theater will turn into a court.

For one evening, the sets of

the Lion King

, a musical which is played there until July, will give way to the solemnity of a room in a courthouse.

A question will animate the judgment of the

TikTok Trial

: should the application be deleted?

To clarify the situation, the floor will be given to speakers but especially to nine content creators who will take their first steps on stage.

Last weekend, six of them were together.

In a seminar room in a hotel in the Ile-de-France, Mayari, Logan, Diego, Emilie, Eva and Thomas give each other the line for a semblance of the first dress rehearsal.

“You are trying!

Like in the theater, even if you fail, you continue, ”claims Quentin Demé, financial consultant, professor of eloquence at the prison of Health and co-creator of the event.

Humor and emotion on the program

Thomas, alias Monsieur Pof, is the first to pass.

With his bourgeois air, he takes the floor to make it clear that the application is not only used to "move his butt" and therefore defends TikTok.

It is then Logan's turn to return to how the social network destroyed his couple.

One everywhere, ball in the center.

Some play a role, like Emilie who plays a manager of the “Prend-ta-thune” agency whose leitmotif is to work “with kindness and respect… for her wallet”.

Immediately after, Mayari puts on a completely different register to deliver a testimony in defense of TikTok.

“I saw women of all sizes, all ethnicities, showing all their talents.

TikTok allowed us to speak out,” says the young woman who opened her account to embody the fights that are close to her heart.

“Maya, can you film us?

»

End of performances, applause.

A round table is organized to review the passages of each.

“We have to believe in ourselves.

I think we will be less stressed when there are people,” imagines Eva.

As the minutes passed, it was difficult to get the full attention of tiktokers, glued to their phones, especially to respond to DMs on Insta.

Everyone ends up getting caught up in the brainstorming game: Logan advises Emily to speak more to the public before Mayari asks her what outfit she's going to wear.

After the groups reunite, the influencers split up to work on their scene.

Logan and Diego form a duo.

A few failed improvisations, a few questions, everything is not yet settled.

While some rehearse, others prepare videos to manage the communication of the event.

“Maya, can you film us?

asks Emilie before slipping away into a hotel hallway.

Questions for a trial

The piece performed on March 21 is intended to be a "show of eloquence".

Alternating with the content creators, public speaking professionals (comedians, singers, actors) will present their point of view while an orchestra made up of six musicians will perform some of the music made popular by the application.

“This is the first time that actors, who are involved, will be on stage.

The challenge is to show that we can make the transition from the screen to the stage”, reports Eliott Nouaille, professor of rhetoric at ISCOM and director of the circle of missing speakers.

This “discursive pleading” will attempt to answer three questions.

Is TikTok a springboard for creativity that promotes the emergence of new talents?

On the contrary, is it simply a mirror of narcissism when everyone seeks glory?

Finally, does TikTok contribute positively to democracy or is it just another tool for procrastination?

“If the play is played a month before the presidential election, it is no coincidence, underlines Eliott Nouaille.

Politicians invest in the platform because they know it is the platform of a generation, but there is no collective reflection on this digital culture.

With this "trial" is therefore organized a democratic time for culture.

The birth of a career?

For several months, tiktokeurs have been working with stand-uppers, lawyers and comedians.

Not easy to face the gaze of 1,600 people for his first time on the boards.

Well, that's what we believe.

“I'm much less stressed at the idea of being in front of 1,600 people than in front of fifteen people,” says Emilie.

"Yes, we're going to meet the people who follow us, it's seriously cool," adds Eva.

As they readily admit, the videographers wrote their text in haste, in the middle of the night or on the very morning of the rehearsals.

On the improvised desk in the meeting room, most tiktokers therefore read their text but do not lose confidence in themselves.

“I want to prove that even if we manage to make people laugh behind a screen, we impose it on stage.

Yes, we can make people laugh with our phone but in real life too.

It's a personal challenge,” smiles Eva.

Will careers take off as a result of this show of eloquence?

"We don't necessarily want to perform on stage," observes Eva.

We do it because it's an experience but maybe we'll like it so much that we'll find our way.

“If the answer remains vague for many, all are impatient to finally be on stage to give voice.
